There are two types of Roulette, European roulette and American roulette. The first form of roulette was created in the 17th century in France, by the famous mathematician Blaise Pascal, who invented the roulette wheel. In 1842, the brothers Francois and Louis Blanc added the single zero to the roulette to increase the house odds. In the early 1800's roulette arrived in America, were another zero was added, again to increase the house odds. This game became famous under the name American roulette.

An American roulette table has a wheel with 38 slots, called pockets. The pockets are numbered from 1 to 36, colored in red or black. The table has two special pockets called zero and double zero, which are marked with a green color. The roulette wheel is spun and a ball is thrown against the direction of spinning, players who bet the right number or color before the spinning, win.

Even though, the winning odds for American roulette are smaller than for the European variant, American roulette is played more often than European roulette in both land-based and online casinos. The game is faster and more exciting, attractive for many gamblers.

In almost every casino, it's possible to play both European and American roulette, to accommodate every type of gambler.

Strange enough, most Americans prefer to play American roulette and most Europeans prefer the European version. Nobody can explain exactly why, but the most states explanation is the attraction in the name of the game…
